Del Posto

It is probably the place to go, right now in New York. It is a big, beautiful, elegant, 2 Michelin’s stars restaurant, for up to 500-600 people!

One of the first things I’ve realized, talking with the Italian chefs, is that they are amazed by the amount of people that all these New York restaurant can do, at the same time keeping their level of quality and service. In Italy, generally speaking, top quality restaurants are small, 50-60 people per service, and not every day. Here in New York it is normal for a restaurant such as Le Cirque to seat 200 people in a normal night of the week.

Del Posto is located in the Meat Packing District, in Manhattan. It used to be an area where you wouldn’t go a few years ago, nothing nice would happen to you and you probably would feel very uncomfortable if you had to walk around there. Now the transformation of this area is amazing, you can see cranes and workers almost any time of the day that are converting this area made of huge storage buildings into restaurants, hotels, residential units. You have to think that back 4 or 5 years ago only someone with a vision could have thought to make a restaurant like the Del Posto here. Those people were Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich, and it can be said that everything is proving that they were right.

Antonio Guida, of the Il Pellicano, has shown to Del Posto’s customers that Maremma food is not only the huge tortelli filled with ricotta cheese and spinaches, or stewed wild bore. His menu for the Maremma event was refined and elegant. Our wines went very well with it. Last night more than 60-70 people choose it and they were enthusiastic about it.

It was the last night of the event, now everyone is ready to go back home to the usual activities (even though is not exactly like that for me, since I’ll fly directly to Merano), but I think that all of us will keep this experience very clear in our memory. A lot of people met for the first time, a lot more learned hot to play together as a team, others will continue to interact and do things together, either individually or as a group. All of us, even those who have been here many times in the past, were fascinated by this amazing town, and all of us feel that the challenge to make it happen here is worth all the efforts that we made and that we are going to make, either together as I hope, or on our own.

This is our main playground, we are just beginning to built our team and start to play. We know that we have a role to play if we want, and that if we stay at home, or we move individually, everything will be much slower and more difficult.
