Behind every great winemaker there’s a woman, and behind her there’s a baby, two children, a dog, 83 piles of washing, 84 empty wine bottles and a hygienically-challenged cleaner (part time). Although I have kept a Hilary-like silence whilst my husband indulges in his extra-marital blog, I have always known what was going on, so many of you are familiar to me now, and thank you all for humouring Gianpaolo on the pages of the Daily Rant.
My onerous duties are such that I can’t stop to chat every day, but I will drop in once in a while as The Voice of Wifely Reason, and explode some of the myths behind day-to-day winemaking. Right now I have to go and drift through the vineyard in a white floaty dress, wide-brimmed straw hat and Spiegelau wine glass….and that’s all before breakfast on the terrace.

≡ justine on Marzo 10, 2008 14:31Do you know, there are about 400 vineyards in England, and about 399 fewer blogs..now why would that be? could they all have three kids as well???
How REFRESHING! I totally identify; I don’t run a wine business, but in the one I do have I had dreams of floating through the flower gardens, picking lovely bouquets a la Martha Stewart. No. Your husband was kind enough to welcome my wine tour last fall, although I had mistakenly taken them to the wrong winery (i.e., the one we DID NOT have an appointment with). Poggio Argentiera turned out of course to the be RIGHT winery! Trust me, we are all buying as much of your wine as we can with good health manage. Soon I will send pictures of our happy group at your winery. Meanwhile, Justine, corraggio! And, Gianpaolo, grazie tantissimo!
≡ Paula Sullivan on Aprile 1, 2008 20:21…and look where Martha ended up. In my next life, I shall aspire only to float through the supermarket aisles and clean out the filter in the washing machine (yeuch, just pay someone else to do it, pay them a lot), and on that basis I shall be Nirvana bound.
≡ justine on Aprile 2, 2008 16:54So sorry not to have met you chaps when you came - I know Gianpaolo enjoyed your visit - but just so glad you enjoyed your stint here; it really is so nice to have someone say they had a good visit. Looking forward to the pictures!
