The Winery

Vineyards in Maremma since 1997

Poggio Argentiera was founded in 1997 with the purchase of the Adua farm, a property which went back to the early 20th century when the Maremma marshes began to be drained.

The 15 acres (six hectares) of vineyards began to produce grapes for a Morellino di Scansano and the new cellar was built. In 2001 the property was enlarged with the acquisition of another farm, located in Baccinello, a hillside zone in the township of Scansano.

New vineyards were added to the older but prestigious existing ones, and today the winery owns over 50 acres (21 hectares) of vineyards all in the Morellino di Scansano appellation.

The Vineyards

Adua is situated in a zone adjacent to the Natural Park of the Maremma, with the Marina di Alberese seaside area, a mere 3-3.5 miles (5-6 kilometers) away, in front of it.

Here soils are prevalently sandy and loamy with little clay and organic substances.

The situation in Bacinello is quite di erent, here the altitude on the hillsides of Scansano is higher. ¬e nature sloping of the terrain, the exposure, and the very stony composition of the soil have made it possible to plant and work vineyards of exceptional potential and unique characteristics.

The 50 plus acres (21 hectares) of vineyards are divided between the Adua farm, where the estate headquarters are located, and the farm in Baccinello.

Red Wines

The red wines are distinguished by some expressions of DOCG Morellino di Scansano – definitely protagonist among the wines that are born in this company and children of a land that gives, thanks to its soil, wines of freshness, drinkability and good longevity – both from vines allochthones that, thanks to our position, have a unique timbre.

White Wines

The white wines, with the native Vermentino first, are the result of a careful selection of the grapes and an interpretation of whites who play on freshness and drinkable recalling the scents of the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea whose waters are always in front to our vineyards.
